Kate S. Homan Attorney

Kate grew up in Northern Kentucky where she graduated from Boone County High School in the top ten percent of her class. She then went on to attend the University of Kentucky where she majored in Political Science and began to focus her studies on the judicial system. While attending UK, Kate was heavily involved in her sorority and held numerous leadership positions, including president of her sorority her senior year. Kate graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Political Science, and was accepted to the University of Kentucky’s College of Law.

Kate graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law in the top third of her class, immediately passed the Bar Exam, and accepted a position with the Kenton County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office prosecuting a wide range of felony cases. For several years, Kate predominantly prosecuted child victim and sexual assault cases, which allowed Kate to gain extensive courtroom and trial experience. Throughout her time with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Kate was able to gain a unique insight into what it takes to move forward with prosecution and what is required to prove a case. Additionally, Kate attended numerous trainings across the country, including a weeklong intensive course on forensic digital evidence through the National Computer Forensics Institute.

In addition to Kate’s extensive experience as a felony prosecutor, she had also held several positions within various areas of the criminal justice system. Kate completed an internship with a Circuit Court Judge located in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. During this tenure, she observed the criminal justice system from behind the bench, attending weekly dockets, assisting in researching legal issues and drafting orders for the Court. Kate also completed a separate internship with a local Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. Kate not only observed various court proceedings, but she also actively participated in trial preparations and developed her skills of legal research and writing. Kate specifically worked on serious cases involving charges of child sexual abuse. Finally, Kate was hand-selected from a large pool of applicants as part of the Kentucky Innocence Project, a program sponsored by the Department of Public Advocacy. The case assigned to Kate involved a person incarcerated on charges of Rape in the First Degree and Murder. Kate’s client vehemently maintained his innocence. This opportunity opened Kate’s eyes to the importance of providing the best defense possible to criminal defendants and solidified her interest in criminal justice.

Kate has always possessed a desire to focus her career on criminal defense. After spending years gaining invaluable experience prosecuting serious felony sex crimes, Kate transitioned her practice and skills to focus solely on criminal defense. Her prior work experience and background has provided Kate with an exceptionally well-rounded understanding of the legal system. Kate uses this knowledge every day when defending her clients against serious allegations throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Kate has a wide variety of interests in her free time. She attends as many Cincinnati Bengals, Cincinnati Reds, and University of Kentucky basketball games as possible. Kate also enjoys entertaining and is an avid cook, spending much of her time in the kitchen, her garden, or searching for new recipes. She is always finding new ways to be creative, whether that is experimenting with recipes or crafting on her sewing machine - and more recently, her newest hobby of needlepointing. Kate also spends much of her time with her family and two dogs, and can often be found supporting local restaurants and wine bars throughout town.
